Guide to Packing Items Like a Pro

Guide to Packing Items Like a Pro

Everybody knows there’s a real art to packing stuff. In fact, we reckon it should be an Olympic sport. Like, c’mon – it’s certainly more entertaining than the poodle clipping event which was held at the Olympic Games in Paris 1900. Or what about Olympic walking? What kind of sport is that? Anyway, the point is, packing boxes takes skill. Today, we’re going to impart some of that skill and create a guide on how to pack items like a pro, so that you’re fully ready for moving day.

Purge stuff

Ah, yes, the word which should put a wicked smirk on your face: purge! Getting rid of stuff you don’t need is a cathartic experience, allowing you to pretend you’re one of those self-righteous minimalists whose YouTube videos have about seven views. Clothing is probably a good place to start. If you haven’t worn something for over a year, get rid of it. Other good areas include kitchen crockery and even some furniture.

Categorise

If you’re the type of person who loves sorting stuff and making lists, then you’re going to thrive in this area. Categorise your belongings so that everything that belongs in the same room is kept together. Kitchenware in the same box, bathroom goods in another box, then bedrooms and the rest. Be sure to label that box, stating clearly what’s in it – this way, your movers will know to be especially careful with your crockery, glassware, etc.

Play Tetris

Did you used to smash this game as a teenager on your Nokia phone? Now it’s time to put it to good use! Find the most practical way of packing each box, so that you’re maximising capacity. It may take a little swapping and shifting, but it’ll save you time and space in the long run.

Heavy items in small boxes, light items in big boxes

Large boxes have a higher chance of breaking, so pack them with light items. You can fit heaps and heaps of light items in a large box without worrying about it giving way. Small boxes should be reserved for heavier items like kitchenware, books, etc.
