  1. What areas do you service in New Zealand?

Whether you’re moving to the top of the north, the bottom of the south, or anywhere in between, we have the capability and resources to move from and to any location in New Zealand.

  1. What countries do you move to?

The Moving Company offers reliable and competitive door-to-door packing, shipping, and moving services to every corner of the globe. We have long-established memberships with the best moving industry associations worldwide.

  1. When should I book in my move?

It is a good idea to book your move as soon as possible. If you are moving internationally, we recommend booking in 8-12 weeks before your move date. For all domestic moves, we recommend booking in 4-6 weeks before your move.

  1. How long will my move take?

There are many factors that contribute to the length of your move including uplift location and delivery destination, the volume of items being packed, shipping dates, and customs clearance (if applicable).

Based on the information provided our friendly Move Managers will be able to provide you with a timeline.

  1. How much will my move cost?

If you’re moving from Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch you can get an instant moving price in three easy steps.

If you’re moving to any other destination, you can get a free moving quote by a submitting quote and calling here.

  1. I have a BIG move will my effects fit in your truck?

The Moving Company operates its own dedicated linehaul and logistics centre with a dedicated fleet of purpose-built furniture trucks and trailers that can hold up to 3 households in a single journey!

We also have custom-built international shipping containers that can be loaded directly from your house!

It’s no wonder we are the BIG move specialists for both domestic and international moves!

  1. What packing materials will be used?

The Moving Company utilities a broad range of custom packing materials designed for optimum protection during the moving process.

Porta-robes are a popular carton with customers as your clothes remain on the hanger crinkle-free.

Priority Cartons are also popular as these cartons are used for important items such as bed legs, remote controls, and everything you’ll want to access first when arriving in your new home.

  1. Are you packers professionally trained?

You can have peace of mind that our moving staff are the best in the business!

All our staff are highly trained through an internal packer’s scheme to ensure we continue to deliver our services at the highest level.

We are also FAIM 3.2 accredited with the world’s only global quality programme specifically designed for the international moving industry. As a member of the FIDI Global Alliance, we are independently assessed every three years by Ernst and Young to ensure compliance with the stringent demand of FIDI’s quality benchmark. This is what makes the difference – a genuine commitment to quality, independently assessed and certified to the highest standard.

  1. What is included in The Moving Company standard relocation service?

We understand that no move is the same and therefore have tailored solutions to meet your moving needs.

Our standard professionally packed service includes the packing of all your household goods using the latest packing material and moving boxes.

We also prepare a detailed inventory that meets both custom and insurance standards.

We will then uplift, stow, transport, and deliver your goods to your new home.

  1. Will The Moving Company unpack my items?

For domestic relocations items are delivered and placed into designated rooms. For international relocations to and from New Zealand items are unpacked and placed on a flat surface.

If you are leaving New Zealand, our accredited international partners will deliver and unpack your goods in your new home.

We understand that you may not have time to unpack all your items and we offer an additional Finishing Touch Valent Unpacking service that will transform your new home by setting up the kitchen, bedroom, etc.

  1. Will The Moving Company dismantle and re-assemble furniture?

We dismantle and re-assemble bed frames and standard furniture; however, this does not include kit set furniture, gyms, trampolines

  1. What items can’t be moved?

Items that cannot be transported by The Moving Company locally or internationally include anything classified as dangerous goods. This includes flammable liquids and gases, firearms, explosives, batteries, and poisons.

Gas bottles can be moved if they have been professionally purged.

If you’re moving internationally depending on your destination country, there will be additional items that cannot be relocated.

  1. Do we need to empty the fridge before we move?

Yes. Please ensure your fridge and freezer is clean and dry. We recommend defrosting your freezer the day before your move.

  1. What additional services does The Moving Company offer?

We offer a range of additional services to help make your relocation easy.

If you’re relocating with a four-legged friend or have a car, motorbike, or boat that needs to be transported we can take care of both.

We also offer home cleaning services, valet unpacking, and international money exchange to help you tick the last few tasks off your moving to do list!

  1. What International Shipping Options does The Moving Company Offer?

We have several shipping options to work within your time constraints and budget.

  • Sole Use Container – You have exclusive use of a 20 ft or 40 ft container. In some circumstances, the goods can be loaded directly into the container at your residence. This method provides the fastest shipping times across the globe.
  • Shared Container – If you have a smaller shipment you may want to consider a groupage option. This is where your household effects are transported in a container that is shared with other clients’ effects. This is very cost-effective for smaller shipments as you only pay for the space you use.
  • Air Freight – If you’re short on time or have essential items you need quickly relocated Air Freight is a great option. This service is popular for work related items, baby items, and children’s toys.

  1. Can you move my pets?

Yes! We know that cats and dogs are an important part of your family, and we regularly work with accredited pet transport providers to make the domestic or international relocation of this important family member as stress-free as possible.

  1. Can you relocate my car, motorbike, or boat?

Yes! The Moving Company regularly ships cars, motorbikes, and boats internationally.

  1. I want to move to New Zealand, can The Moving Company help?

Through our global network of accredited partners, we provide a seamless door-to-door relocation service from anywhere in the world to New Zealand.

We are the largest moving company in New Zealand for handling inbound household goods and car shipments for returning kiwis, visa holders, and new residents.

  1. Do you recommend Moving Insurance?

Just like you ensure your furniture in your home, we highly recommend insuring your goods whilst in transit or storage. Even with the most careful movers unforeseen circumstances outside our control pose inherent risks.

When moving internationally your goods are transferred through other organisations including shipping companies, quarantine, and customs facilities which add additional risk.

  1. Does The Moving Company have storage facilities?

The Moving Company offers long and short-term secure storage options at all our New Zealand locations. You can have peace of mind knowing our warehouses are custom bonded and monitored 24 hours a day.

  1. Are there any items that can’t be stored?

Anything classified as dangerous goods cannot be stored. This includes ammunition, paint, linseed oil, turpentine, kerosene, petrol, cleaning fluids, and aerosols of any kind.
