We were delighted to receive a unique opportunity from Save the Kiwi – the chance to name a kiwi chick being cared for at the Gallagher Kiwi Burrow.
Being invited to take part in this special naming tradition means a great deal to us. Save the Kiwi names each chick during the incubation period, helping their team build a meaningful connection with the kiwi during its hatching process, before it is eventually released into the wild.
We are very proud to share that we have chosen the name ‘JP’.
JP was a much‑loved member of The Moving Company team. As our General Manager of International and Sales, he dedicated 12+ years to the business before he became unwell. His passing at the age of 45, in 2021 left a deep impact on many of us.
“Naming this kiwi chick after JP feels like a fitting way to honour his memory. It reflects the strong relationships, loyalty, and care that sit at the heart of our team culture. We know this tribute will resonate with our staff who worked with JP and serve as a meaningful reminder of his lasting contribution to The Moving Company’s success.” Commented Mark.
Save the Kiwi encourages names with a strong story or clear rationale – whether inspired by someone special, an important attribute, or a connection to the organisation itself. JP’s name carries exactly that: a genuine story of someone who embodied dedication, friendship, and the spirit of our company.

We’re pleased to share that JP has officially arrived. This milestone marks another meaningful step in our ongoing partnership with Save the Kiwi and their dedicated conservation team.
Kim, one of the experienced keepers at the Gallagher Kiwi Burrow, has provided a positive initial update on JP’s condition. “JP is bright, vocal, and off to a strong start – weighing in at a healthy 345 g.”
This early progress is an encouraging sign, and we’re proud to support the important work that helps ensure the survival and wellbeing of our native kiwi.
Save the Kiwi shared “JP may have been one of the smaller kiwi at the crèche, but he more than made up for it with his larger-than-life personality. From the moment he arrived, he kept the team entertained with his endless energy, curious nature and cheeky antics. He was wriggly, wiry, always on the move and never shy about making himself heard! With his strikingly dark legs and vocal personality, JP quickly became one of those kiwi you couldn’t help but remember.”
On 10 June 2026, JP received his microchip under his right wing, an important step in helping the Save the Kiwi team identify and monitor him throughout his conservation journey.
Over the past few months, JP has continued to grow stronger and more confident, reaching a healthy release weight and showing all the signs of a young kiwi ready to return to a safe place in the wild.
Earlier this month, he reached the milestone Save the Kiwi had been working towards gaining enough weight to enter quarantine in preparation to be released back into the wild.
Today, 17th July 2026 is JP’s big day and he will be returned to the wild to play his part in growing New Zealand’s wild kiwi population.

Because of you, JP has been given the best possible chance to survive, thrive and one day contribute to future generations of kiwi in the wild.
